Summary: The NGIC Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Branch mission focuses on global IED threats, emphasizing locations of U.S. Forces currently deployed and are likely to be involved in the next five (5) years and other areas of national interest.  IEDs continue to pose a significant threat to deployed Soldiers worldwide.  Terrorist groups often use Commercial Off the Shelf Technologies (COTS) as an initiator switch for IED threats in both the technological and geographic arenas.  As new technologies are developed, so are new triggering devices and techniques.  Because the level of technology varies in developing countries, the creation of the country studies will include specific threats for each target country. Personnel shall provide Regional Threat Characterization (RTC) Country Study support to the National Ground Intelligence Center IED Branch.  The support required includes research, technical analysis, and finished intelligence production.
